Engagement To Recovery

A Community-based Program Addressing Disparities in Care.

Engaging Communities of Color to Understand, and Design Unique Strategies to Address Barriers to Recovery.

Only by actively engaging members of the community can we work together to understand and design unique strategies to address barriers to recovery.

We want to support anyone who is in or seeking recovery.

Recovery IS Possible!

Racial disparities in outcomes associated with opioid use disorder represents a significant healthcare problem in Wisconsin. Our project includes community outreach to engage with a diverse group of stakeholders within communities of color.

Essential to our goals is the need to identify and meet the specific needs of community members, instead of expecting residents to try to fulfill their needs through strategies that have not been effective for them or that have been developed without their input.
As we implement our community engagement plan, we will spread awareness of and offer opportunities for people of color to train as Recovery Coaches or Peer Support Specialists to promote linkages to care. Peer support is a way to establish safety and hope, build trust, and enhance collaboration. Peers who have lived experience can share their stories to promote healing and recovery.

The project also involves the development and dissemination of a specific anti-stigma campaign to help eliminate stigma as a barrier to seeking treatment among persons of color facing opioid use disorder.
