Wisconsin Voices For Recovery is excited to introduce Bill Lauer, a talented and dedicated member of our statewide Advisory Council. Bill is the founder and executive director of Friends of Recovery – Wisconsin established in 2010 to educate, advocate for and support peer managed sober housing using the Oxford House model. As a volunteer, he is the Oxford House liaison in Wisconsin offering technical support for 25 houses which provide 195 self-supporting, recovery beds.
In 2017, FOR expanded its mission to legislatively advocate for consumer-involved recovery supports including peer run sober housing, peer recovery coaching, peer recovery centers and policy that enhances Recovery. As a person in long term recovery, himself, Bill works to eliminate the stigma associated with Substance Use Disorders and people obtaining permanent housing, through sharing his own experience.
