DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars! January 13th\, 2021 is the first annual Stand Up for Recovery Day in Wisconsin. Please come out and use your voice as WI recovery advocate.\nWe are hosting Stand Up For Recovery Day at the Capitol with our Co-Sponsor\, Recovery Advocacy Project- Wisconsin.  Our event will celebrate effective recovery programs and work to address current unmet needs of those suffering from substance use disorder. \nWe will have speakers and recovery-focused resources that will be available throughout the event. Key activities include a working lunch and a public round table discussion focusing on ‘How to Celebrate Successes in Recovery\, While Addressing the Gaps in Services’. \nParticipants will include legislators\, DHS staff\, law enforcement\, citizen activists\, health advocates\, and peers and family members in recovery. Constituents from across the state will be attending this event. DESCRIPTION:Join us Wednesday\, October 7th from 1:00-1:30PM CST for a Q&A with Rita Von Haden. Rita will be discussion Coulee Council- who they\, what they do and the 211 recovery coach warm hand off program. \nRita began her road to public education as a heath and physical education teacher after graduating from UW-La Crosse. Three years later she returned to the LaCrosse area where she began her work as a prevention educator with the non-profit agency Coulee Council on Addictions\, Inc. eventually adding prevention specialist to her list of accomplishments. Rita’s beginning focus was K-12 substance use prevention and education in school districts in LaCrosse and Trempealeau County\, along with community substance abuse and addiction education. Rita is involved with the LaCrosse County prevention network coalition and the alliance to HEAL overseeing the youth and community prevention subgroup. After almost 12 years with the agency Rita began her work as a recovery coach supervisor- overseeing a group of 12 recovery coaches through the ED2Recovery+ program.

DESCRIPTION:Join us this Wednesday\, September 30th from 1:00PM-1:30PM CST for a discussion with Joe Bales! Joe will be discussing: 1. The first 3 years of MARI 2. Preliminary results 3. how the program has recently expanded. \nIn January 2016\, Captain Joe Balles retired from the City of Madison\, WI Police Department after completing a 32+ year career. Captain Balles earned a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the UW-Platteville (1983)\, a master’s degree in public affairs from the La Follette Institute of Public Policy at the UW-Madison (1988). Captain Balles is also a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy (2006). He has been busy in retirement providing safety and security related services and technical assistance to police departments across the United States and the the Madison Metropolitan School District. In March 2017\, Captain Bales and Safe Communities of Madison-Dane County were selected by the City of Madison to provide project coordinator services for the MPD’s Madison Area Recovery Initiative (MARI). This new and innovative approach to addiction establishes a “pre-arrest diversion pathway” or process whereby MPD police officers are be able to refer and facilitate clinical assessment and treatment for individuals battling the disease of addiction.

DESCRIPTION:Join us Wednesday September 23rd for a Q&A session with Christma Rusch. Christma will be talking about following your passion\, stepping out of fear\, leading with integrity\, and authentic community partnerships. \nChristma Rusch is a long time native to Manitowoc. She began her work in nonprofits\, human service\,\, and community work in 2010. She started out working in prevention and then moved into juvenile justice as the program coordinator for the Manitowoc County Youth Diversion Program. \nDuring her 5 years with Lakeshore CAP\, she obtained her BS in Human Development\, became a master ACE’s trainer with Saint E’s\, kids at hope trainer\, and a smart recovery facilitator for youth. Christma is currently pursuing her master in organizational leadership and administration at Concordia University. Christma is also someone who has been in long term recovery from substance use disorder since 2005. She is a mother\, a wife\, a foster parent\, an advocate\, a sponsor\, and most recently the founder and director of the Lighthouse Recovery Community Center.

His employment at Waukesha County Department of Health and Human Services for the last quarter of a century has provided him with an opportunity and platform to provide services to the community and advocate for inclusion and diversity. As a supervisor at Waukesha County DHHS\, Mr. Garcia supervises social workers in the adolescent and family division. Mr. Garcia is the former Director of the Hispanic Collaborative Network and sits on several advisory boards and boards of director. Mr. Garcia is a strong advocate for the Hispanic community and for the recovery movement.
